Biographical Sources

Published biographies in book form should be searched in the Dictionary Catalog and in CATNYP (see Research Guide Biographical Resources). The biographies on Mormon individuals are mostly laudatory; there are only a handful which are based upon solid scholarly research. For articles embedded in biographical dictionaries, consult the Biography and Genealogy Master Index; however, the finest single reference source for biographical materials on Mormons is

Wiggins, Marvin E. Mormons and Their Neighbors. ([Provo, Utah]: Harold B. Lee Library, Brigham Young University, 1984), 2 vols. APK 86-3304. This is a master index to 194 published volumes and lists the sources or over 75,000 biographical sketches "1820 to the present."
