The New York Public Library's Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) Presents Free Investor Education Seminars on Thursday, May 11 Investor Education @ your library Helps Personal Investors Make Informed Financial Decisions The New York Public Library's Science, Industry and Business Library is hosting Investor Education @ your library on Thursday, May 11. Two free personal investment seminars will be offered, one from 10:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. and another from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Each seminar starts with a 90-minute presentation and is followed by optional, one-on-one counseling sessions with investment professionals. Representatives from the New York Office of the Attorney General will also be on hand to address investor protection and fraud issues. Investor Education @ your library is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and Investor Protection Trust (IPT). Twenty library systems around the country have been selected to participate. The seminar and counseling sessions will be conducted by representatives from the Evelyn Brust Foundation. The Science, Industry and Business Library is located at 188 Madison (at 34th Street). The seminars cover the process of investing and all participants will take a short quiz to determine their own investment temperament. Topics include IRAs, 401ks, state-sponsored college savings plans, and balancing risk and return. Participants will be given a personal balance sheet to complete before the seminar date. Goal setting, establishing a personal investment plan, improving after-tax returns, and monitoring investments will also be discussed. Materials have been provided by IPT, Kiplinger Washington Editors Inc., U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, CPA's and the PBS Television Series Moneytrack and will be distributed to participants.
