Literary Magazine Editors Introduce Emerging Writers in Periodically Speaking Series at The New York Public Library

The Council of Literary Magazines and Presses and The New York Public Library present Periodically Speaking, a reading series providing a major new venue for emerging writers to present their work while emphasizing the diversity of literary magazines in New York City and the magazine collections of The New York Public Library. Each event presents writers from three influential literary magazines -- one poet, one fiction writer, one nonfiction writer -- introduced by their publishers/editors.

Program II

Tuesday, May 9th , 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
DeWitt Wallace Periodicals Room, The New York Public Library
Humanities and Social Sciences Library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd St.
(Please use Fifth Avenue entrance; admittance is free)

The Believer
A monthly magazine where length is no object, The Believer focuses on writers and books the staff likes. They give people and books the benefit of the doubt. Editor Heidi Julavits will introduce nonfiction writer Ginger Strand.

Salmagundi
Salmagundi is a quarterly of the Humanities and Social Sciences addressed to the "general" reader rather than to the academic specialist. Editor Peg Boyers will introduce poet Maggie Dietz.

Pindeldyboz
An operation run by a small but valiant group of people, Pindeldyboz prefers stories that defy classification: fiction, non-fiction, and whatever else might exist between the cracks. Editor Whitney Pastorek will introduce fiction writer Jami Attenberg.

Look for the final program in the "Periodically Speaking" spring schedule:
Tuesday, June 13th: The Paris Review, Alimentum, and Bellevue Literary Review.

This series is made possible in part by support from the New York State Council for the Arts, a state agency; and Friends of [ clmp ], a diverse group of individuals committed to supporting independent literary publishing.
