Library Lions Step Up to the Plate In Support of New York's Playoff-Bound Yankees

New York, October 16, 2001 -- In celebration of the New York Yankees' outstanding come-from-behind-victory, the grand marble lions that guard The New York Public Library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street will be adorned with giant baseball caps for the duration of the Yankees play-off season. The Lions were named Patience and Fortitude by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia in the 1930s for the qualities he felt every New Yorker needed to persevere through good times and bad. Now, more than ever, let's all root for New York!
