Nancy Donner Named Director for Communications and Marketing at The New York Public Library

New York City, July 31, 1997: Nancy Donner has been promoted to the newly created position of Director for Communications and Marketing at The New York Public Library, effective immediately. In her new position, which reports to Library President and CEO Paul LeClerc, Ms. Donner will supervise internal and external communications, press relations, institutional marketing, and graphics for the world's largest public library system, with four research centers and 85 branches in three boroughs. "I am delighted to make this appointment," said Dr. LeClerc. "Nancy Donner brings to her work a thorough knowledge of our Library's history and an appreciation of our plans for its future. She is deeply committed to our tradition of democratic access to the world of information and is a fine spokesperson for the 21st-century library we are creating."

During her five-year tenure as Manager of the Library's Public Relations Office, the Library's press coverage in both national and international media more than doubled. Her work in securing coverage of the Library's yearlong Centennial Celebration during 1995 and the opening of the Library's new $100 million Science, Industry and Business Library in 1996 resulted in seven national public relations awards, including the Best of the Big Apple Award, a Silver Anvil Award (both from the Public Relations Society of America), and a John Cotton Dana Award (American Library Association). On the occasion of the Library's Centennial, Ms. Donner created an interactive multimedia electronic press kit in CD-ROM format, a first for any nonprofit organization in the nation.

Before joining The New York Public Library in 1992, Ms. Donner was Director of Public Relations at The New-York Historical Society. A native New Yorker and a graduate of Brown University, Ms. Donner has served cultural and entertainment institutions her entire professional career.
