I am from the Michigan and if you are traveling anywhere, besides packing the baseball cap, de rigeur for women are light colored denim, pastels and blazingly white sneakers. I so long for the leather sole to come back for everyday shoes. If you travel to a resort like Mackinac Island you will also find the preppy and sailor look, plus the light colored denim, pastels and glow in the dark sneakers. Regional clothing styles are like regional dialects, you can tell immediately upon seeing it.
