The Central Libraries > Mid-Manhattan Library > Accessibility Services Accessibility Services Accessibility Services allows people with disabilities to use library resources within the library. Through research assistance and individualized training in the operation of special equipment, patrons are linked to a full range of library materials and services. The Services also maintains a reference collection of disability-related materials, as well as a small but growing circulation of print and non-print materials, and a selective listing of periodicals such as Closing The Gap ( Assistive Technology Resources for Children and Adults with Special Needs), Hearing Loss Magazine, Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, and PN by Paralyzed Veterans of America. The assistive technology includes: NEW ARRIVAL! LifeLinks VRS provides its video interpreting sign language relay service, which effectively turns a computer screen into a videophone. It allows interpreters, who also sign in Spanish, to be seen on screen in real time. It also offers teleconferencing capabilities with up to four participants.
