The Art Collection at Mid-Manhattan Library is pleased to present “Flying Words” by emerging multimedia artist Viviane Rombaldi Seppey. In these two site specific installations of deconstructed books, the artist takes a playful and geometric approach to the transmission of knowledge and information through reading. She engages viewers in verbal and visual exchanges between libraries and the external world of communication. Kim Beck, an artist and associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University, will join Rombaldi Seppey for an “Artist Dialogue” on Saturday October 17th at 2:30 p.m. on the 6th floor. The exhibition series “Art in the Windows” is curated by Arezoo Moseni.

Artist Statement

In “Flying words” books and paper are the prime materials. I created this work in order to underline the possibilities of how, through the act of reading and looking, our relation to knowledge and communication takes place. Using paper concertina from books and images, I wanted to give a moving quality to the piece, and to imply that what we read or see is in constant state of flux towards the others or in the making of our own memory.
